The Outside Line

The Outside Line is a new podcast from some of the team behind motorcycle sports broadcasting in the UK and around the world.

Re-uniting the commentary duo of Jack Burnicle and James Whitham, the show focuses on all things 2 wheels from MotoGP to BSB, WSBK and MXGP, often featuring a guest, and always involving Sprout the Jack Russel. Episode 9 was the season finale and the guest was experienced Broadcaster Matt Roberts.

I joined for episodes 8 and 9, the most recent 2 at the time of writing, and I was responsible for setting up the lighting, mics and cameras. Daryl Kibble White had already laid out a design for previous episodes, so I had a great reference to replicate. I used Rotolight Neo 3 pros for colour lighting, and Bowens Streamlites for the key and fill. We shot on an FX6, FX3 and FX30, all timecode synced and receiving audio from the 3 mics. Once wrapped I was also responsible for data wrangling and backups, and I tend to offer a setup project aswell, that syncs everything up and applies a LUT to the footage before it goes off to Tim (Fowden - the brains behind the show) for editing. While it is a really fun job, and everyone is laid back, it is still really important that it looks and sounds great for viewers, listeners and sponsors.

These episodes are available as videos on Youtube, and audio only from Apple Podcasts, Audible and wherever else you can find audio pods!
